C'est fini ! Nous avons assisté Samedi à une grandiose fin d'étape, avec une arrivée au sommet, au cours de laquelle MOSQUERA a tenté de renverser la situation en reprenant à NIBALI, les 50 secondes qui le séparait, de son adversaire. Le suspens était total, car NIBALI, décroché, semblait sur le point de craquer. En fait, il a rétabli la situation dans le dernier Km.

Vincenzo NIBALI, confirme son potentiel de coureur de Grands Tours. Encore un jeune prétendant à la victoire dans le Tour, ces prochaines années, avec Peter VELITS et Roman KREUSIGER.

 

 

La dernière étape, dans Madrid n'a apporté aucun changement. Mais surprise, Tyler FARRAR s'est imposé au sprint, pour la seconde fois à CAVENDISH (qui a quand même gagné 4 étapes !).

 

 

 

David MONCOUTIE a conservé son maillot de meilleur grimpeur, le 3ème en 3 ans ! Chapeau à ce coureur un peu marginal. Notons aussi la relative bonne performance de Rémi DI GREGORIO, 20ème, qui semble sortir de l'ombre au moment où il va quitter la FDJ.

J'ai bien apprécié la présence continuelle, avec les meilleurs, de Nicolas ROCHE, qui confirme avec une belle 7ème place. Pourra-t-il faire mieux ? Je lui souhaite, mais j'ai l'impression (j'espère fausse) que cette place est plus due à son courage qu'à de véritables dispositions pour un podium dans un grand Tour.

On peut être un coureur de grande classe et ne pas gagner souvent. Mais en gagner une belle de temps en temps, en y mettant la manière. C’est ce qu’a fait aujourd’hui Peter VELITS dans le CLM de la VUELTA, à 52km/h !  et devant le gotha des rouleurs, CANCELLARA compris. La façon dont il s’était imposé au Championnat du Monde Espoirs il y a 2 ou 3 ans laissait augurer ce qu’il advient aujourd’hui. Il se révèle un futur (proche) candidat à la victoire dans un grand Tour. Il roule, il grimpe, il récupère bien et il a un gros mental. Et tout ça au top.<o:p></o:p>

Joaquim RODRIGUEZ, par contre, s’est fait éjecter du podium de la Vuelta,en concédant de 4 à 6 mn sur ses principaux adversaires. Le surprenant MOSQUERA, par contre, se replace en candidat pour la victoire finale. L’avant dernière étape de Samedi, avec arrivée au sommet, va être somptueuse !<o:p></o:p>

L’étape d’aujourd’hui était considérée comme l’étape reine de la Vuelta, la plus rigoureuse, avec 3 ascensions de 1^ère catégorie. Les 2 premiers cols n’ont pas été escamotés et très rapidement une première sélection s’est opérée. Dans le second col, Franck SCHLECK a porté une première attaque, qui a eu le mérite de durcir encore la course, et de mettre les principaux protagonistes à leur niveau de rupture.  Dans l’ascension finale, SCHLECK a réattaqué, suivi de SASTRE, qui devait céder un peu plus loin. Solidement assisté de son coéquipier KREUSIGER (grande classe, celui là) NIBALI donne le change et semble maîtriser la situation. Mais dans le final, attaqué par tous ses principaux rivaux, il montre ses limites, cédant rapidement du terrain. Dans le dernier kilomètre, il cède 37 secondes à Joaquim RODRIGUEZ, qui lui reprend le maillot rouge. Ce dernier doit regretter de ne pas avoir attaqué un peu plus tôt, car son avantage de 33 secondes ne pèse pas trop lourd avant le long CLM de Mercredi. Mais il reste encore une belle arrivée au sommet, l’avant-veille de l’arrivée. Rien n’est encore vraiment joué.<o:p></o:p>

L’étape a été remportée par le dernier et le seul rescapé de l’échappée du jour. David MONCOUTIE renforce sa position, mais JC PERAUD a finit par sombrer dans la profondeur du classement de l'étape, à 30 mn.
