    17ème Etape : Superbe rapproché de Christopher FROOME<o:p></o:p>

    Compte tenu des faibles écarts les séparant, on s’attendait à une belle confrontation entre les 3 premiersfroome5 du Général, avec avantage COBO pour quelques secondes. On a vu, dans les deux derniers km, Bradley WIGGINS marquer le pas, et décrocher des sillages de FROOME et de COBO qui ne se lâchaient pas. Avec eux, pour les autres, c’était le sauve qui peut, chacun essayant de lâcher le moins de secondes possibles sur les deux principaux protagonistes.<o:p></o:p>

    Et puis nous avons assisté à un spectacle fabuleux sur ces pentes supérieures à 15 %. FROOME attaque et COBO se colle à la roue. FROOME insiste, insiste, et on sent COBO à la rupture, mais il tient. Tous les autres sont lâchés. Ils sont seuls au monde ! Soudain COBO décroche, perd 1m, puis 2, puis insensiblement, il en perd jusqu’à une cinquantaine. Avec le jeu des bonifications, FROOME devient le leader virtuel de la Vuelta. <o:p></o:p>

    Alors qu’on pense que les jeux sont faits, on voit COBO revenir, tout aussi progressivement qu’il a été lâché. Il recolle à la roue de FROOME, le dépasse et essaie de le larguer. Cela à environ <st1:metricconverter productid="300 m" w:st="on">300 m</st1:metricconverter> de la ligne sur une pente de 19%. FROOME résiste, colle à la roue, et à <st1:metricconverter productid="150 m" w:st="on">150 m</st1:metricconverter> de la ligne dans un ultime effort maximal, s’arrache pour prendre le dessus sur COBO et le devancer de quelques mètres sur la ligne.<o:p></o:p>

    Quel spectacle ! Longtemps qu’on n’a pas vu une

    <o:p></o:p> 

    arrivée disputée et aussi dramatique, n’ayons pas peur des mots, les deux coureurs s’écroulant épuisés après la ligne d’arrivée, chacun dans leur coin.<o:p></o:p>

     

    Et maintenant ? COBO n’a plus que 13 secondes d’avance sur FROOME, et il y a encore 2 étapes très accidentées. Le spectacle n’est pas fini. Ce Christopher FROOME, totalement inconnu du grand public avant le départ, n’a pas l’air d’être du genre à renoncer facilement et aujourd’hui, psychologiquement, il a pris un ascendant sur son rival. <o:p></o:p>
